Water that enters from above
Rain that gets under shingles or tile, around vents and skylights, or through failed flashing travels along framing before it appears on a ceiling. By the time you see a stain, the insulation and drywall above it are usually saturated. Ceiling drywall that sags or bulges can fail suddenly, so keep people out from underneath and call for help.
What storm and roof leak restoration includes
- Controlled removal of water from ceilings, attics and wall cavities
- Removal of wet insulation and damaged drywall
- Drying of framing and building materials with air movers and dehumidifiers
- Temporary protection such as tarping, which may be arranged with a licensed roofing contractor
- Cleaning and deodorizing of affected rooms and contents
- Documentation to support your insurance paperwork
Roof repair versus water restoration
Restoration companies dry and repair the interior. A licensed roofer repairs the roof itself. Both are needed to stop damage from returning. If the roof is open to the weather, ask about emergency tarping so rain does not undo the drying work.
Winter storms near the foothills
Arcadia's rainy season brings periods of intense rainfall that test aging roofs, clogged gutters and poorly sealed penetrations. After a storm, check ceilings in corners, around light fixtures and below the attic hatch for soft spots, discoloration or drips.
Please note: Emergency Water Damage Arcadia is a referral service, not a contractor. All restoration work is performed by independent companies licensed by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB).
Frequently asked questions
Should I go into the attic to look for the leak?
Only if it is safe. Attics can have weak flooring, exposed wiring and wet insulation. If you are unsure, leave inspection to the professionals.
What if the ceiling is bulging with water?
Keep people and pets away. A carefully made small opening can sometimes relieve trapped water under supervision of a professional. Call right away rather than poking it yourself.
Will my ceiling need to be replaced?
Water-soaked drywall and insulation are often removed. Stained but structurally sound areas may be dried, sealed and repainted. The crew will explain after taking readings.
